Smritrekha Bishwas , a talented dancer/ actress of yesteryears who married successful producer S.D Narang, gave up acting on her marriage.
Interestingly her debut as a romantic heroine was in Bimal Roy’s Hindi film Pahela Admi.
Earlier she had danced in Roy’s iconic film Udayer Pathe. Once paired with stars like Guru Dutt, Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor, the 92 year old senior actress was discovered in a miserable state, living anonymously in Nashik.
At the age of 92 years, she is left to fend for herself with no financial security. When the tragic news broke, many people offered support- including Anju Mahendroo and director Hansal Mehta.
On our part, the Bimal Roy Memorial has risen to the occasion with generous help of providing Ms Biswas essential medical and other commodities suited to her age and situation.
This gesture from our side is part of the Bimal Roy Memorial’s Mission. Setup in 1997, the idea was to honour and recognize senior artists of the vast Indian film industry who often get left out in the competitive field of glitz and glamour. For a steady flow of 22 years we have carried on this mission with great seriousness.
Our committee members have decided to set up a fund raiser for her and other artist, facing similar challenging circumstances. We request your support for this purpose.
Donations are welcome and will be greatly appreciated.
